Description

“If you find something you love it’s so exciting. Your brain is a bowl of energy. It gives you such passion for life. That is the power of creativity.”  Thelma Pepper

Thelma Pepper was born in 1920 in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. In 2020, from her adoptive home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she reflects on a century of life, love, passion and creativity as seen through the lens of her camera, and that of her father and grandfather before her. In middle age, in the depths of depression, Thelma discovered her true artistic nature, embarking on a creative journey with enough energy and passion for another lifetime. In her poignant black and white photographs we glimpse more than a century of hope and hardship, we see how creativity can inspire human connection and transform lives.

\Thelma and I spent many hours together, looking at her photo albums and talking about the important themes and milestones of her life. She is such a thoughtful lady, so open with her own story and so curious about other peoples' lives. Her interest puts everyone at ease, which explains how she captured such tender and truthful portraits of everyone she photographed. \"Amy Jo Ehman,  Author.

Published in 2020 by MacIntyre Purcell. Hardcover. 152 pages. Text + 200 archival and art photographs.

$1 from each copy of Thelma: A Life in Pictures sold will be donated by the author to Remai Modern’s outreach programs.
