Emma Lake Archive
An architectural documentation of Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus
By Crystal Bueckert & Cameron Forbes

Published by Object Misarchives
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

In 2012, Crystal Bueckert & Cameron Forbes were invited to document the buildings on the Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus, a summer research and fine arts residency operated by the University of Saskatchewan. Cam painted the interior of the buildings while Crystal created as-built, scaled architectural drawings of each building.

Founded in 1936, in 2012 the Emma Lake campus had 33 buildings on its site, including cabins, studios, labs, and a dining hall. Each building’s unique design, structure, and construction represents the context of its time. They are records of the happenings that have taken place on the site. These have held multitudes of visitors, each with their own creative intentions. Each building has been witness to the work created by artists and scientists staying at Emma Lake.

Shortly after their residency at Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus, the University of Saskatchewan decided to close the campus for a period of three years. This documenting project has now become an archive.
